We Have A Home!

Thanks to a our terrific Miracle Team, with most of them making a strong presence at the July 27th City Council meeting, the Alameda East Bay Miracle League has a formal Cooperation Agreement with the City of Alameda and Alameda Reuse & Redevelopment Authority (ARRA). In addition, the City has dedicated $50,000 toward the expensive design and development phase for the entirety of Miracle Park. This agreement makes it official that the City is dedicated to supporting our plans for Miracle Park to be built at the field currently called Estuary Park. The United States Navy still owns Estuary Park but intends to lease and eventually convey ownership of the site to the City in the near future. The formal Cooperation Agreement is a huge accomplishment and occurred thanks to the expertise of our Board member, Nino Borsoni. This document provides future supporters the confirmation that we have a level of site control, and attests to Miracle League's dedication to build a beautiful park, with a sports field and league activity for special needs athletes.

Purchase tickets to an A's game and $8 will be donated to Alameda EB Miracle League!

Fourth of July Parade

Fourth of July Parade ABEBML float in AlamedaThis Independence Day we celebrated our mission to help the Disabled and Able Bodied Community of Baseballers in the Bay Area come together to make a MIRACLE happen in our backyard.

July 4, 2010, dawned sunny and beautiful, the perfect weather for Alameda's annual Mayor's 4th of July Parade. The Alameda-East Bay Miracle League debuted its first-ever float in the parade. The float itself was a miracle that was made possible by the wonderful volunteers that helped with the planning, building, walking, and riding in the parade. In addition, the float would not have happened without the generous donations from Alameda Towne Centre, the Oakland A's, the Alameda 4th of July Parade Committee, who donated the flat bed truck for the float, and Trader Joe's, who donated water for all of our thirsty walkers.

The float was a 45-foot flat bed trailer, complete with a snack shack inspired and staffed by the Miracle League's very own ambassador, Nicholas Simpson! In addition, there was a live band playing music from the 80's, who also led the crowd in song with "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," engaging the parade spectators to sing along throughout the parade route. There were 30 "Buddies" walking in the parade, passing out sunflower seeds and Miracle League antenna balls, and waving bats to the beat of the music and enjoying the day.

The Miracle League float was a crowd-pleaser, and a huge success. Everyone involved in the planning and building of the float had a wonderful time, and were greatly rewarded by seeing their hard work come to fruition. The Miracle is happening, right here in Alameda!
